Margreet Barhoum, the Wesco 3A’s leading scorer, piled up 31 points to lead Meadowdale to a 65-53 win over the visiting Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team Friday, Jan. 28.
Oak Harbor coach Trisha Clayville said she tried several different defenses and several defenders, but her team “didn’t have an answer” for Barhoum.
Clayville said each time Barhoum left the game the Wildcats made a run, but when she returned the Mavericks would pull away.
Meadowdale (8-4, 10-8) went into the locker room up 32-23, but Oak Harbor sliced the lead to two, 41-39, heading into the fourth period.
Barhoum, who spent most of the night attacking the hoop, sank 10 free throws in the final quarter to help the Mavericks pull away for the win.
Adrianna Royal and Dominique Jackson each scored a season-high 12 points for Oak Harbor.
Clayville said, “Adrianna had great game. She had a double-double, getting somewhere between 12 and 14 rebounds.”
She added, “DJ had a good game; Tatianna Cumming did as well.”
DJ returned after missing a game with a concussion, and Cumming had “a lot of steals and played good defense,” Clayville said.
“I am proud of our team, the kids played extremely well,” Clayville said.
Janelle Yoshimoto scored six points, Annie Leete six, Emilie Renninger two, Cumming two and Ciera Wiser two.
Oak Harbor (1-11, 2-16) goes to Shorecrest (10-2, 11-7) tonight, Jan. 31, and then finishes the season at home with Glacier Peak (7-5, 10-8) Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
