Oak Harbor Pigfest raised $12,000 for the second year in a row to give to North Whidbey charities.
Scott Fraser, founder of the late summer event and owner and chef of Frasers Gourmet Hideaway, handed out checks Friday to North Whidbey Help House ($6,000), Medical Safety Net of North Whidbey ($3,000) and Citizens Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse ($3,000).
The August event drew nearly 10,000 people and served a free pork meal to more than 6,000, Fraser said The event is possible through donations from the community and sponsors..
“Our goal is to have enough major sponsors to cover the cost of the event,” said Fraser. “The cost of the event grows every year with the amount of people.
“One is always hoping for a big sponsor to help us out so we’ll be able to get more money (to charities) next year.”
The Pigfest moved to Pioneer Way for the second straight year, drawing signifcantly more attendance.
