The Oak Harbor 13-14 Babe Ruth baseball team scored two runs in the sixth inning to help send the game to extra innings, but an error in the bottom of the eighth led to a 7-6 loss at Burlington Thursday, June 21.
Oak Harbor now moves on to the district tournament; dates and opponents will be determined Monday.
Against Burlington, Oak Harbor built leads of 2-0 and 4-1 before getting blanked for three innings and trailing 6-4 going into the sixth inning.
In the sixth, Christian Bertram led off with a walk, then with two outs, Noah Zuniga singled and Max Van Dam walked to load the bases. Tyler Snavely ripped a two-run single to tie the game.
Oak Harbor scored two runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, Snavely opened the game with a single to right and eventually scored on Robert Herring’s double. Herring scored on a single by Bertram.
Zuniga started the second with a walk, advanced to second on an error and scored on Snavely’s single. Kevyn Johnson walked, then Herring’s bunt scored Snavely.
Snavely collected four hits in the game; Herring doubled; and Quentin Tungate, Sean Erskine, Bertram and Zuniga singled.
Oak Harbor left the bases loaded four times.
In the eighth, Burlington scored when its lead-off hitter walked, went to second on a pass ball, moved to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a wild pick-off throw.
