Oak Harbor welcomed the region’s newest high school, Marysville Getchell, into the world of Western Conference tennis by defeating the host Chargers 5-2 Tuesday, Sept. 6, in the first match of 2011.
The Wildcats picked up straight-set wins in three of the four singles matches.
In No. 2 singles, Eric Berner won 6-2, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, Harrison Miller was a 6-3, 7-7(5) winner. Will Southard claimed No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, David Kusnick and Cameron Bester captured the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-4.
In No. 2 doubles, Ben Harrison and Sam Glavick prevailed 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-3.
Freshman Carter Saar dropped the No. 1 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 2-6.
In No. 3 doubles, Jacob Nelson and Tom Dale fell 7-5, 2-6, 2-6.
Oak Harbor begins home play Thursday, Sept. 8, at 3:45 against Mountlake Terrace.
