Shorewood, which was ranked on top of the state 3A baseball poll most of the season, defeated visiting Oak Harbor High School 7-1 Monday, May 5.
The Thunderbirds (14-2, 17-2) pushed across four runs against Oak Harbor starter Teddy Peterschmidt in the second inning on four hits and two errors to jump to an early lead.
Three Shorewood pitchers combined for a four-hitter and seven strike outs to thwart any comeback attempt by the Wildcats.
Oak Harbor’s run came in the fifth inning. Casiano Atienza led off with a single, moved to second on Nate Stanford’s walk, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Brent Mertins’ fly to center.
Stanford, Danny Wolfe and C.J. Meders collected the other Oak Harbor hits.
Shorewood finished with 12 hits, including three doubles and a home run.
Oak Harbor (5-11, 5-14) completes the season at home at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, with Meadowdale (8-7, 10-8).
