Although the Oak Harbor High School softball team received a strong pitching performance from Tricia Sarns and played solid defense, it couldn’t produce any runs and fell 3-0 at Stanwood Wednesday, May 6.

Oak Harbor, which has been shutout in five of its past seven games, out-hit Stanwood five to four, but the Spartans (7-7, 8-9) were able bunch their hits with several walks to earn the win.

Sarns finished with a four-hitter, seven strikeouts, four walks and three earned runs.

Samantha Payne collected two of Oak Harbor’s hits. Lexi Findley, Kelly Findley and Sarns added singles.

“It was a really clean game,” Oak Harbor coach Todd Showalter said. “We had only two earns, and neither cost us. Both pitchers pitched really well.”

The Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning, but Stanwood pitcher Emma London struck out the side to end the threat. London finished with 11 strikeouts.

Oak Harbor (1-13, 1-16) plays Arlington (7-7, 8-9) at home at 4 p.m. Friday, May 8.
