This lawyer is an extraordinary humanitarian

It is not often that a true humanitarian should come into one’s life, but I have had that experience and feel such a person deserves unlimited accolades. I speak of none other that William H. (Bill) Hawkins, a respected attorney within the community and esteemed member of the Rotary Club of Oak Harbor. Many will remember the outstanding work that he accomplished as the Island County Prosecuting Attorney for many years before going into private practice. I have had the privilege of working with Bill as a county employee and now in the private sector as his legal assistant. In March of this year, I was diagnosed with cancer, which necessitated surgery and months of chemotherapy until my return to work in October.

The remarkable and extraordinary aspect of this entire experience is that Bill Hawkins kept me on the payroll since May 14. Every two weeks I received my full salary even though I was at home fighting cancer. He did this without ever making mention of the same and offering nothing but words of encouragement and reassurance.

In a time of national, as well as local hardships, he erased the financial stresses that accompany the inability to work in order that all my energies could be expended fighting cancer.

William H. Hawkins has proven himself to be a truly caring, giving and selfless individual warranting recognition as a remarkably extraordinary humanitarian. We need more people like Bill Hawkins in the world! A heartfelt thanks to Bill.
