A 23-year-old Oak Harbor man who was previously convicted of stalking his ex-girlfriend was sent to prison for continuing to contact her even while he was in jail, court documents indicate.

Jermaine Flores pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court Aug. 24 to two counts of violation of a no-contact order.

Judge Vickie Churchill sentenced Flores to a year and five months in prison and ordered him to pay $1,317 in fines and fees.

In exchange for Flores pleading guilty, the prosecutors agreed not to file three other potential charges against him, court documents state.

On March 27, Flores’ ex-girlfriend reported that he had contacted her in violation of a domestic violence no-contact order.

Flores was serving time in the Island County jail for stalking the same woman. He asked other inmates to send her letters, since the jail wouldn’t allow him to send them himself.

Also, Flores asked inmates to visit the woman at her home after they were released in order to relay messages, court documents state.

On July 29, Flores again violated the court order by calling the woman from the Oak Harbor jail. He told her “something might happen” if she was seeing someone else, the police report states.

Flores was convicted of stalking the same woman early this year, as well as violating a no-contact order. He watched her home and continually called her. He even called her about ten times when a detective was at her home to investigate.
