Oak Harbor beaten twice
Melanie Cone recorded 29 assists and scored five aces, but it wasn’t enough as the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team dropped a 3-2 non-league decision at Shorewood Tuesday evening.
Jennifer Jansen had 15 kills and teammate Jessica Muzzall added 12 for the Wildcats in the 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 17-25, 10-15 loss.
Kim Mowbray had seven kills and five blocks, and Emily Meagher served four aces.
On Thursday, undefeated Kamiak recorded a 3-1 victory over Oak Harbor.
Kamiak won the first two games 25-20, 25-20, before the Wildcats rallied in the third game to win 29-27.
In the final game, the Wildcat defense fell apart and Kamiak claimed the match with a 25-10 win.
Oak Harbor is 1-3 in preseason matches.
Coupeville whitewashed 9-0
King’s High School always fields one of the top girls soccer teams in the Cascade Conference, and the young Coupeville squad had the unenviable task of squaring off against the Knights on their home field Tuesday evening.
King’s scored six goals in the first 40 minutes of action and cruised to a 9-0 victory.
Coupeville is 0-1 in league games and 0-2 overall.
Wolves battle Knights, Tigers
The Coupeville High School volleyball team won the first game of Tuesday’s match 25-21, but King’s High School rallied to win the next three games to pick up the victory in the first Cascade Conference match of the season for both teams.
Julie Huddleston had 19 assists to pace the Wolf Pack.
On Thursday, the Wolves took Granite Falls to five games before dropping as 3-2 decision to the Tigers.
Coupeville won the first two games 25-19, 25-22, before Granite Falls rallied to pull the match out winning the final three games 25-16, 25-23, 15-10.
Linde Maertens had 16 kills and 10 digs for the Wolves, and teammate Kassie Lawson recorded 11 digs.
Coupeville is 0-2 league and 1-2 overall.
’Cats blanked by Eagles, Spartans
On the road for their third WesCo North soccer game of the season Tuesday evening, Oak Harbor ran up against some tough competition at Arlington.
The Eagles scored in the first minute of the game and that ended being the only goal needed to earn their first victory of the season.
Arlington tacked on three additional goals in the second half to win 4-0.
Coming back to Wildcat Memorial Stadium Thursday to face Stanwood, Oak Harbor lost another close game.
Reanne Lee scored at the 63-minute mark and the Spartans came away with a 1-0 victory.
The Wildcats put pressure on Stanwood goalkeeper Hayley Haugstad several times in the match, but were unable to put the ball in the net.
Sophomore Jordan Boucher made 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
The loss keeps the Wildcats winless in league games at 0-4.
