Oak Harbor High School sophomore Dakota Sinchak was recently selected by Offense-Defense Football Camps as one of its youth all-Americans.
Sinchak, 15, attended a full contact camp sponsored by Offense-Defense at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma July 11 to 14 where he was tabbed as the best defensive skill player in the senior (15- to 17-year-old) division.
The camp website said this award is given to the “defensive back or linebacker who consistently performs at a high level and improves each session.”
Last week Sinchak was notified that he was picked to be one of the participants in the annual O-D all-American game. The game is tentatively set to be played Jan. 2 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.,
Offense-Defense holds about 50 camps across the country each year and invites its top players to be part of the all-American game.
O-D spokesman Matt Whittier said Sinchak was one of 88 out of about 7,500 campers nationwide selected to play in the O-D Bowl. The participants will train for a week with NFL-caliber coaches prior to the game, according to Whittier.
Whittier added, “It gives the kids an opportunity to play on a national stage. Three-hundred and eighty-two of our former campers are in the NFL.”
Oak Harbor High School coach Jay Turner said, “Dakota is a very talented young player who has a very bright future in our program. We are excited to see him reach his potential and be a major contributer in our program for the next three years.”
Sinchak, who is 5-8, 135 pounds, also performed well at the National Underclassman Combine at Seattle’s Franklin High School May 28. He was the top freshman at the combine and named to NUC’s Ultimate Invite and All-Combine teams.
