Coupeville High School’s tennis team blanked visiting league rival Friday Harbor 5-0 Friday.

In first singles, the Wolves’ Connor Tasoff stopped Zach Milkis 6-2, 6-4, in a match of two of the league’s best players. Coupeville coach Ken Stange said Tasoff had been anticipating this match since the beginning of the season. Tasoff controlled the pace of the play and took advantage of every opportunity to put balls away, according to Stange.

Stange said one other player will challenge Tasoff and Milkis for the league singles title, the Wolves’ Ben Hayes.

Hayes, playing in second singles last Friday, won 6-1, 7-5.

Coupeville’s superior depth was evident as the Wolves easily won all three doubles matches.

In first doubles, Jordan Lamb and Sean Thurman rolled 6-2, 6-1. Stange said Lamb provided the consistency while Thurman provided the power.

Garrett Knoll and Travis Curtin took second doubles 6-1, 6-0. Stange said the pair have played together off and on for several years and have “truly advanced their doubles games.”

Eston Humphries and Nate Lamb won 6-0, 6-2, in third doubles. Stange said Humphries showed improvement by controlling his power game, which allowed Lamb to control the net.

Stange said this is Coupeville’s first 5-0 sweep in his five years as coach.

The Wolves go to South Whidbey Thursday for a match against their Island rivals.
