A 21-year-old Oak Harbor man raped a teenager and suffocated the girl with his hands when she screamed, according to a detective’s report.
Prosecutors charged Riley R. Boyd in Island County Superior Court Nov. 4 with second-degree rape.
If convicted of the crime, he could face more than six years in prison under the standard sentencing range.
The 16-year-old girl reported that Boyd was her friend and she was over at his Rolling Hills home on the night of Oct. 28.
The man asked the girl to go to his room to talk so they wouldn’t disturb his roommate, according to the report by Detective Chris Peabody with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.
Boyd tried to kiss her, but she told him she did not want to. He allegedly pushed her down on the bed, continued to kiss her and pulled off her clothes as she resisted and continually told him to stop, Peabody wrote.
The report states that Boyd raped her. When she screamed for him to stop, he put his hands over her mouth and nose to muffle the sound. She couldn’t breathe and became lightheaded, the report states.
The alleged victim later told the detective that she and Boyd were not in a dating relationship and that she had previously made it clear to him that she was not interested in one.
The girl went home and did not immediately report the rape to police. She went to the hospital for a sexual assault examination the next day, the report states.
