Charged just to cash a check

I would like the local people to know how I was treated recently by our local branch of Wells Fargo Bank. A local business wrote me a check that was drawn on Wells Fargo Bank. When I went in there to cash this check, they took my driver’s license number and entered it in the computer, then my credit card number and entered it. All the time giving me the sales pitch I should open an account with them. They got me to put my thumb print on the check and then informed me that it was going to cost me $5 to cash their check written by their customer because I did not have an account there.

Needless to say I took the check and told them I had never heard of anyone having to pay to cash a check drawn on the bank at which you are trying to cash it at. Does that mean if I take it to my bank in Anacortes and cash it that they are going to charge my bank $5? I don’t think so. This just set me off so I had to write and let you know. I hope it will get in the paper.
