I would like to thank the emergency responders and good Samaritans who came to my assistance after I hit ice while driving on Ault Field Road on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 14. Though this letter is belated, my appreciation is sincere and heartfelt.
I had been driving around town and on NAS Whidbey Island in the afternoon on wet roads, but obviously that stretch of Ault Field Road had iced over. Seat belts and airbags really do work! I was able to walk away from the accident with only a scraped nose and cracked glasses lens.
Many thanks to Lt. Mike Hawley of the Island County Sheriff’s Office, NAS Whidbey Island Security and the fire and medical responders from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue who were on the scene immediately. They ensured my safety, as well as those driving around the accident. Their professionalism and dedication to taking care of the public was obvious.
To the good Samaritan who found my glasses between the seats of my vehicle and stayed until she was sure I was okay, thank you for your kindness. And thanks to Christian’s Towing for your quick response, USAA Insurance and Main St. Collision.
I had much to be grateful for this holiday season; my health, family, friends and the gift of living in the wonderful, caring community of Whidbey Island.
