Arlington slipped by the visiting Oak Harbor High School volleyball team 3-2 Monday, Sept. 23.

The Wildcats won the first game 25-19, then the Eagles (2-1) took the next two, 25-22 and 25-21. Oak Harbor forced a fifth set with a 25-20 game-four win, but fell 15-12 in the final round.

Wildcat coach Kerri Molitor said, “The match started out very good. We were playing well and capitalizing on Arlington’s mistakes, then we started making errors.”

Molitor said Arlington served well and the Wildcats struggled to return serve.

“When we did pass, we ran a pretty good offense,” she said.

Kayleigh Harper collected 26 kills and five aces to lead the OHHS offense. Claire Anderson added 14 kills and Hailey Beecher had 37 assists and six aces.

“With those stat leaders, you would have thought we won,” Molitor said. “We were doing well in the fifth set until two calls by the second official changed the momentum of the game.”

The narrow loss was a tough break for the Wildcats who are still looking for their first regular match win to go along with the title they won at the Lynden Tournament earlier this fall.

Oak Harbor (0-4) heads to Snohomish (2-1) Tuesday, Sept. 24, to close out the non-conference schedule before hosting Shorewood (2-2) in the league opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.
