Golding, Frazier capture windy Whidbey Marathon

Wyatt Golding of Seattle and Amy Frazier of East Amherst, N.Y., battled cold weather, high winds and 185 other runners to win the 10th Annual Whidbey Island Marathon Sunday, April 10.

Oak Harbor’s Andrew Wyman (1:15:34) and Carre Joyce-Heineck (1:21:25) of Portland placed first among the 1,141 who finished the half marathon, and Jeffery Graves and Emily Breck, both of Oak Harbor, took top honors in Saturday’s 5K run of 213 runners.

Golding captured the marathon in 2:52:05, 11 minutes ahead of Adam Read of Seattle.

Aaron Johnson was the top Oak Harbor runner, grabbing seventh overall in 3:16:06.

Coupeville’s Dale Folkestad, the only runner to have competed in all 10 Whidbey Marathons, finished 50th in 3:57:06.

Frazier, who finished fifth overall, ran a 3:12.17 to finish ahead of the second-place female, Rochelle Long of Everett, by nearly 11 minutes.

Debbie Gallo of Oak Harbor was the top local female runner, finishing 93rd overall and 31st among the women in 4:21:06.

Golding and Frazier received $1,000 for their wins, while Wyman and Joyce-Heinick were awarded $500.

Alicia Underwood was the top local female finisher in the half marathon, crossing 105th in 1:42:24.
