Ferry service between Clinton and Mukilteo was disrupted Thursday morning after a woman drove her car off the end of the Mukilteo dock.

Divers from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of the 45-year-old woman who drove into the water, apparently intentionally.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. a captain piloting one of the ferries on the Mukilteo-to-Clinton ferry route noticed the roof of a pickup truck in the water near the ferry dock, said Cheol Kang, officer with the Mukilteo Police Department.

He said divers from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and pulled the woman’s body from the truck. The woman, who had a Woodinville address, was taken to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office and officials are working to notify her family.

Kang said a review of the surveillance tape at the terminal showed a truck  navigating its way through the barriers at the terminal before driving off the end of the dock. The incident occurred after ferry service had ended for the evening.

The ferries Cathlamet and Kittitas were running 15 minutes late because of the incident when ferry service resumed Thursday morning.

By 1:20 p.m., Kang said the truck was being pulled from the water at Lighthouse Park, which is located adjacent to the Mukilteo terminal.
