Tennis: Oak Harbor wins 6 of 7 in first day of league tournament

The girls will continue play today, May 13, at 3 p.m. in hopes of continuing to next week’s district tournament at Jackson. The top four singles players and doubles teams move on to district.

Both Oak Harbor’s Cady O’Dell and Erin Neilon advanced to the semifinals in singles, as did Laurin Rico and Clarissa Abadesco in doubles.

O’Dell, the third seed, defeated Alli Breaker of Monroe in the first round 6-2, 6-0, then stopped Heather Smith of Stanwood 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter finals.

Neilon, the fifth seed, first topped Courtney Coombs of Marysville-Pilchuck 6-2, 6-0, and then upset No. 4 seed Jessica Willmorth of Cascade 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, No. 3 seed Rico and Abadesco defeated Marysville’s Katie Gilespie and Kate Landry 6-1, 6-4. In the quarter finals, the Wildcat pair won 7-6(3), 6-4 over Brook Larsen and Kylee Hilde of Lake Stevens.

Oak Harbor’s Jordan Faralan and Shannon Neilon fell in the first round 6-1, 6-0 to the fourth seed, Julie Winston and Brielle Nicholas of Snohomish.
