After dominating its conference, the Oak Harbor High School bowling team is aiming to repeat as state champions at the 47th Annual Washington State Bowling Proprietors’ Association State High School Varsity Bowling Championships this weekend, Feb. 18 and 19, at Kenmore Lanes near Bothell.
Oak Harbor rolled through the regular season by winning its league by almost 30 points and 2,000 pins and heads into the tournament with the state’s second-best average, 938, trailing only Tacoma’s Stadium High School (941).
Twenty-eight, five-person teams will be divided into three divisions based on average.
Oak Harbor also qualified a second team for the third division.
Oak Harbor Varsity 1, coached by Jason Youngsman and assisted by his father John Youngsman, includes Jerin Applegarth, Tyler Rolyson, Stephen Hornback, Carlton Johnson Jr., Brendan McCardle and alternate Glend Shunde.
Varsity 2, coached by CJ Johnson and Steve Hornback, is manned by Ryan Gildan, Jay Angeles, Kekai Tarrant, Powell Tarrant, Dylan Slater and alternates Christian Osorio and Patrick Anderson.
