The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team scored 15 runs over the final two innings to blow open a tight game and win 17-3 in six innings at Sedro-Woolley Friday, May 29, in the season opener.
Ahead 2-0 going into the top of the fifth inning, the Wildcats plated seven runs, then added eight more in the sixth.
Oak Harbor’s Robert Herring led off the game with a single and eventually came round to score the game’s first run in the first inning.
The Wildcats added another run in the third on back-to-back doubles by Preston Rankin and Avery Aguirre.
That set up the big fifth inning. Singles by Tyler Snavely, Trent Benson, Rankin, Aguirre, Dylan Bailey and Chad Spradlin and a triple by Herring fueled the inning.
In the sixth, Oak Harbor received singles from Herring, Snavely, Bailey and Aguirre and doubles from Rankin, Spradlin, Taylor Consford and Benson.
Sedro-Woolley scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning.
Spradlin, Benson, Aguirre and Steven Richards shared the pitching duties.
Rankin finished 3-for-5 with two doubles; Herring was 3-for-4 with a triple; Aguirre was 3-for-4 with a double; and Snavely, Benson and Spradlin all added two hits.
Oak Harbor begins league play this week, meeting Sedro-Woolley two more times at 6 p.m. The clubs play in Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, June 2, and in Oak Harbor for the Wildcats’ home opener Thursday, June 4.
The games sandwich a trip to Meridian for Oak Harbor at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3.
