The North Whidbey Aquatic Club swept all three opponents and then padded its lead in the championship final to capture the Round Robbin meet at John Vanderzicht Pool June 22 to 24.
The Aquajets defeated a combined Thunderbird Aquatic Club of Anacortes and the Mighty Marlins Swim Club of Marysville 592-220 Friday. Saturday, it thumped the Bellingham Bay Swim Team 642-116, and on Sunday dunked the Stingray Swim Club of Snohomish 576-354.
The top six fastest individual swimmers advanced to Sunday’s finals, and NWAC led the way with 496 points. SSC scored 335, MMTAC 273 and BBST 40.
The Aquajets were paced by girls 15-and-older high-point winner Laura Rosen, who won all eight of her individual events and set five team records including breaking the 50 free record twice, initially lowering it to 28.67 and then to 28.50. Rosen’s other records were in the 200 individual medley (2:26.35), 100 butterfly (1:05.86) and 100 freestyle (1:01.09).
Other Aquajet high-point winners were Jerrin Concepcion (boys 10-and-under), Kelly Huffer (girls 11-12) and Carl Davis (boys 11-12); all three athletes won all eight of their individual events.
The girls 11-12 200 medley relay team of Erica Sugatan, Jillian Pape, Olivia Tungate and Huffer also set a team record, dropping a second off the old record with a 2:23.15.
Friday, Maira Sulin earned a Pacific Northwest Swim cut, and 100 percent personal records where set by Kyle Coonan, Frances Empinado, Micah Geist, Joe Gorman, Huffer, Mary Catherine Middleton, Pape, Michelle Robinson, Brett Vagt and Molly Vagt.
Saturday, PNS cuts were met by Huffer and Sulin, and 100 percent PRs were posted by Coonan, Mariel Empinado, Gorman, Sam Hines, Kenzie Judd, Chloe LaRue, Middleton, Cavan Schmid and Molly Vagt.
Sunday, Caitlin Dennen, Geist, Gorman, Hines, Ashleigh Merrill, Middleton and Lawrence Zapanta swam 100 percent PRs.
Event winners in the finals were Josh Byers, Concepcion, Davis, Ciara Hu, Huffer, John Middleton, Patty Miessner, Rosen, Tungate, Molly Vagt and Zapanta.
Frances Empinado, Geist, Hines and Price Hu clocked 100 percent PRs.
Frances Empinado earned the RelayBig Award with 7-for-8 relay PRs, trimming five seconds of her 200 free relay time (40.82) and three seconds off her 200 breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay (52.70).
Geist took Swimmer of the Meet honors with 8-for-8 individual-event PRs, 7-for-8 relay personal bests, four seconds off his 100 back time (1:16.45) and six seconds off his 200 IM time (2:47.22).
First-meet participants were Logan Hamlin, Lindsey Middleton, Erika Polack, Kirsten Polack and Madison Kleinsmith
NWAC next competes July 6 to 8 at the Starlight Invitational in Wenatchee, where it will field a team of 42 athletes.
The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.
Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
