Putting its superior depth on display, the Oak Harbor boys swim and dive team tripped up Jackson and Cascade in a double dual meet at John Vanderzicht Pool Wednesday, Dec. 15.

The Wildcats won just three of the 12 events, but captured two of the final four to overtake Jackson 96-84. Oak Harbor defeated Cascade 104-78, and Jackson topped Cascade 103-76.

Deep Oak Harbor (4-0, 5-2) won the two meets even though several of its top swimmers, including Price Hu, Josh Jepsen and Jacob Jepsen, were absent. Wildcat swimmers who also compete for the North Whidbey Aquatic Club skipped this week’s high school meets to tapper for the Washington State Senior Championships this weekend.

In Oak Harbor’s wins Wednesday, John Kaltenbach (diving, 105.8), Yale Rosen (100-meter breaststroke, 1:14.41) and the 200 free relay of Ben Cardinal, Rosen, Kevin Levy and Caley Powers (1:51.63) grabbed firsts for the Wildcats.

Rosen was also second in the 50 free (26.47) and the 200 medley relay with Cardinal, Brandon Vagt and Devin Schell (2:00.87).

Vagt was second in the 100 butterfly (1:06.6) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.53).

Other third-place finishes for Oak Harbor came from Schell (200 free, 2:14.95; 400 free, 4:51.76), Ryan Cuajunco (200 individual medley, 2:34.72; 100 backstroke, 1:10.19), Cardinal (100 free, 1:03.6), 200 free relay (Jaxon Wolfe, Ryan Byrne, Judd Ford, David Kusnick, 2:01.99) and 400 free relay (Schell, Powers, Vagt, Cuajunco, 4:15.87).

The Wildcat swimmers don’t compete again until they go to Lake Stevens (3-0, 3-2) Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 3:15 p.m.
