After dropping a double header to Bellingham, the Oak Harbor Legion baseball team rebounded to sweep double headers from Sequim and Arlington.

Bellingham stopped Oak Harbor 8-3 and 13-11 June 6 at Sehome High School to raise its league record to 5-0 and handed Oak Harbor its only league losses.

With 23-2 and 8-3 wins at Arlington June 16, Oak Harbor raised its league record to 5-2 and put the Wildcats in second place.

Oak Harbor defeated host Sequim 5-1 and 12-2 June 11 in a non-league double header.

In game one at Sequim, Andrew Snavely threw a complete game, surrendered six hits and struck out five. Offensively he rapped two hits, as did Zach Zimmerman and Cory Cameron.

In game two, Teddy Peterschmidt nearly mirrored Snavely with a complete game five-hitter and struck out four. David Kusnick picked up two hits, including a triple, and Cameron singled twice.

In the lopsided win over Arlington, Oak Harbor put together a mind-boggling 16-run fifth inning that included a sequence of eight consecutive hits. In all Oak Harbor had 13 of their 23 hits in the inning.

Coach Tyson VanDam said,  “Everything was a hard-hit ball, no Texas leaguers; it was great to watch.  We have been hitting with wood bats for the last six games or so, and it has really helped fix some problems with our swings.”

Anthony Stewart, Grant Schroeder, Ben Etzell, Zimmer and Nate Stanford each had three hits.  Etzell also picked up the pitching win.

In the second game, Peterschmidt “threw a great game,” according to VanDam. Only one of the six runs was earned as Peterschmidt pitched a complete game, scattered eight hits and struck out three. He was aided by three double plays.

Oak Harbor heads to Wenatchee for a tournament June 23 to 26.
