Coupeville senior Makana Stone helped the 1A all-star basketball team defeat a club of 2A players 87-80 Saturday, March 19, at King’s High School.

The annual all-state game featured Washington’s top seniors.

Stone, the two-time Olympic League Most Valuable Player, scored six points, grabbed six rebounds, recorded four blocks and dished out two assists in the game.

“To me, the game wasn’t about stats, who won, but that Makana put in the time and effort over the past four years and earned a chance to play with the other top players,” Coupeville coach David King said.

The 1A team build an early 12-point lead, but the 2A squad recovered to lead 44-40 at halftime.

Stone started the second half and helped her team regain the lead on the way to the win.

“In the first half, it was more getting used to playing with new teammates and getting comfortable,” King said. “Makana started the second half and played loose and got into a good rhythm. What a great honor and opportunity for Makana and the other players participating (in the game).”
