Painting:
Wendy Lee Lynd’s “Intuitive Collage Books,” May 23, $125, materials fee of $6, make a serendipitous book structure using paint, paper, collage and “found poetry.” No artistic experience needed. All levels welcome.
Patty Picco’s “Intaglio,” June 5 and 6, $245, materials fee of $35. With this printmaking method, the image to be printed will be made by cutting below the surface of the plate to hold the paint in the grooves. Elegant results are possible.
Ted Nuttal’s “Figurative Watercolors from Photographs,” June 21 to 25, $660. Painting the figure can be just as approachable as a still life or landscape. Learn as Ted offers daily demos, lectures and one-on-one interaction. Intermediate and Advanced.
James Moore’s “Educating Your Eye-the key to a better oil painting,” June 25 to 27, $375. Learn how to see better, thus creating better paintings. Learn to see color notes, abstract shapes, see mass and form and learn to see and mix color. Beginner to intermediate.
Patty Picco’s “Collograph,” June 26 and 27, $245, material fee of $35. Learn to create your own plates for use in collograph prints. Design and color will be emphasized. All levels welcome.

David Julian’s “Camera Creativity and Inspiration,” June 9 to 13 (7 p.m. first night, noon last day), $495, materials fee of $25. Sharpen your photographic awareness, camera skills and digital work flows. Shoot some of Whidbey Island’s most unique locations. Advanced beginner to advanced.
Brenda Tharp’s “The Expressive Nature Image-Imagining it, Creating it,” June 23-27, $545. Pictures aren’t taken, they are made. Make them using creative vision and technical skills. Learn how to translate that vision in the final image. Advanced Beginner to Intermediate.
Ray Pfortner’s “Plein Air Photography,” July 23 to 25, $345. Photograph Whidbey Island and be part of a juried group show at the PNW Art School. Weekend will consist of outdoor shots, from sunrise to sunset, and after dark. All levels welcome.
Craig Tanner’s “The Spirit of Whidbey Island,” July 26 to 30, $775. The focus of this five-day workshop is one-on-one instruction in the field followed by supportive review of the images created. Presentations will include composition, seeing and creating the grand scale landscape photograph, architecture working with long exposures and more, intermediate to advanced.
Fiber Arts:
Michele Wipplinger’s “Natural Dyes,” June 11 to 13, $345, materials fee of $100. Bogolan, Ochres and Tannins-West African inspired Mark Marking Techniques. Learn creative mark making using simple mud slurries which have been gathered from Italy to Crete and your own back yard. All levels welcome.
Jeannette DeNicolis Meyer’s “Vanishing Act: Discharging Dye with Discharge Paste,” June 14 to 16, $345, materials fee of $40. Safe discharge chemicals can be used in a solution or as a paste to selectively remove or transform areas with color from dyed yardage. All levels welcome.
“Vanishing Act: Discharging Dye with Immersion Bath”, June 17 and 18, $235, materials fee of $30. Work with Thiox in a bath to learn the basics of safe color removal. You will combine shibori resist techniques (pole wrapping, clamping and sewn resists) and a warm discharge bath to create unique patterned fabric. All levels welcome.
Jean Hick’s “Millinery Topics in Felt,” June 28 to 30, $345, materials fee of $85. Learn to make felt hats from start to finish, headwear and trim using the ancient art of felt making. Beginner to intermediate.
