Late surge pushes Sedro-Woolley over North/Central Whidbey | 11/12 softball

Sedro-Woolley scored late to secure a 7-4 win over North/Central Whidbey in the title game of the district 11/12 Little League softball tournament Wednesday, June 29, at Volunteer Park Fields.

Sedro-Woolley won two of the three games in the series to advance to the state tournament July 9 in Spokane.

In all three games of the District 11 tournament, the winners used a fifth-inning rally to take the lead.

With the scored tied at 1-1 Wednesday, Sedro-Woolley plated three runs in the fifth and another three in the sixth to claim the title.

Two singles and a passed ball allowed Sedro-Woolley to score in the first inning.

North/Central Whidbey, coached by Gerry Oliver, tied the game in the fourth. Sedro-Woolley pitcher Riley Pirkle had a perfect game until Ariana Bickley singled with two outs in the fourth. Kayla Carr followed with a double to score Bickley.

Sedro-Woolley scored three times off Purple Thunder starter Izzy Wells in the fifth on three singles and an error.

North/Central got one run back in the bottom of the fifth when Megan Sumner reached on an error, was pushed up by walks to Kayla Crocker and Layla Roberts and scored on a wild pitch.

Sedro-Woolley combined three hits, a walk and an error to score three runs off relief pitcher Macy Oliver in the sixth inning to make it 7-2.

The Purple Thunder scored twice in sixth with the help of a walk to Bickley and a single by Carr.

Pirkle finished with 13 strikeouts; Wells fanned eight.
