The Coupeville volleyball team slid by Granite Falls 3-1 Monday at Granite Falls to set up matches with state powers Archbishop Murphy and King’s Wednesday and Thursday.

The win lifted the Wolves’ season record to 2-0 and helped them build up some steam for the Wildcats and Knights, the defending state A champions. Coupeville coach Toni Crebbin said her team is flying under the radar (picked to finish seventh in the Cascade Conference) and could sneak up on league-favorites Murphy and King’s. “I think we will surprise them. They don’t know about Jessica, and we are doing a good job of spreading the offense around (making the Wolves difficult to defend).”

“Jessica” is Jessica Riddle, one of the Wolves’ leading offensive threats, and because she is a freshman, Archbishop Murphy and King’s have yet to see her play.

In the 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21 win over Granite Falls, Michelle Riddle, Jessica’s senior sister, had 13 kills, one more than Jessica. Julie Swankie had 19 assists and was 15-15 serving.

The league varsity contests against Murphy (Wednesday) and King’s (Thursday) will start at 7 at the Coupeville High School gym. JV begins at 5:30.
