Editor,

In response to Michael Monson’s opinion in the July 17 edition of the Whidbey News-Times, perhaps the Navy knowing this is the prime tourist season is being a good neighbor and allowing the merchants, artists and all the other folk that make a good dime this time of the year and enjoy the good weather.

And keep in mind, regardless of what some think, in the event of need as authorized by Congress, they could use the field 24-7, 365 days a year.

Perhaps instead of talking about things you may be totally unaware of, perhaps you should thank them (and offer) empathy and understanding.

Yeah, yeah, I know, “they closed the base in Maryland.” They may close this OLF also, but, if needed, they can go for it again.

Also, to Kelly Emerson, my God what a load — pay your fine prior to continued pontification, thank you.
