Three North Whidbey Aquatic Club short course records fell at the inaugural Blue Heron Distance Open at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool April 29-May 1.
Thirty-one members of NWAC took part in the three-team meet.
Ashleigh Merrill, 12, was named NWAC Swimmer of the Meet after winning four events and posting a new NWAC record in the girls 11/12 800 freestyle (10:09.68).
Lindsay Brown, 10, winner of three events, set a new NWAC mark in the girls 9/10 1,500 free (21:50.7).
Alana Miller, 10, won the girls 9/10 800 free in a record 11:38.99.
Jillian Pape, 16, won four events; Haley Borja, 8, captured three; and Diandra Dominguez, 13, took one.
Two NWAC master swimmers also took part in the meet and earned top-16 NWAC female open times in the 800 free. Sara McGrath, 38, clocked a 11:50.64 and Brittany Johnson, 28, posted a 13:10.08.
NWAC coach Robert Taylor called the meet “a successful adventure” and lauded the volunteers who helped put it together.
“All NWAC swimmers did complete their distance swims, including those who swam their very first ever mile swims in the 1,500-meter free,” he said. “As for our more experienced swimmers, many lifetime best times were recorded, even on a converted basis from their fast yard times.”
The Blue Herons begin the long course season May 15 and 16 in Richmond, B.C.
