Wildcat United claims conference title | Middle school track

Oak Harbor’s Wildcat United won the boys title at the 11-team middle school Northwest Conference Championship track meet Thursday, May 26, in Oak Harbor.

Oak Harbor’s Wildcat United won the boys title at the 11-team middle school Northwest Conference Championship track meet Thursday, May 26, in Oak Harbor.

Wildcat United, which combines athletes from Oak Harbor and North Whidbey middle schools, captured the crown in both the boys varsity (eighth grade) and junior varsity (seventh grade) divisions.

The varsity boys, with a strong showing in the field events, edged Mount Vernon 98.67-93, while the JV boys held a comfortable lead over second place Anacortes 126-77.5.

In girls action, the Wildcat United varsity placed third with 98.5 points, trailing Cascade of Sedro-Woolley (126.83) and Burlington-Edison (105.33).

The junior varsity team took seventh with 29 points. Anacortes claimed the JV girls title with 144.5 points.

Wildcat United, coached by Mikki Boyer and Mike Briddell,  finished the year with 143 participants, and 70 qualified for the conference meet.

Assistant coaches are Alan Bailey, Ashlee Poggie, Keith Snavely and Matt Nuqui.
