Power perverted into tyranny

Thomas Jefferson once stated, “Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have. The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.”

Proponents for this new clean water taxing district have a common theme as witnessed by recent letters to the editor. That theme is, it is government’s responsibility to provide us with clean water.

Let us add clean water to the growing list of responsibilities (entitlements). Government is responsible to provide us with a retirement income (Social Security), health care, jobs, housing, food, shelter and clothing. When disaster strikes, we expect government to rebuild our community, our homes and our lives.

Welcome to the land of social democracy!

Social democracy is a political ideology that advocates a peaceful, evolutionary transition of society from capitalism to socialism using established political processes. Based on 19th-century socialism and the tenets of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, social democracy shares common ideological roots with communism but eschews its militancy and totalitarianism.

Social democracy was originally known as revisionism because it represented a change in basic Marxist doctrine, primarily in the former’s repudiation of the use of revolution to establish a socialist society.

Thomas Jefferson warns us again when he stated, “Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.”
