Oak Harbor splashers split
Oak Harbor High School’s swim team ran its season record to 2-0 in the WesCo and 3-1 overall by dunking visiting Stanwood 132-53 Tuesday afternoon.
Starting with a victory by Amanda Streubel, Rachel Weinstein, Ciara Hu and Tori Nickerson in the opening event, the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:15.68, and ending with win in the 400-freestyle relay by the quartet of Karina Concepcion, KeriAnne Wright, Carolyn Vasquez and Weinstein, the Wildcats dominated the meet start to finish.
Traveling to Marysville-Pilchuck Thursday afternoon to take on the always strong Tomahawks, Oak Harbor came out on the short end of a 106-80 score.
Hu won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:18.90 and also captured the 100 butterfly at 1:02.38.
Amanda Streubel won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.01, and Weinstein was the winner of the 500 freestyle in a clocking of 5:45.20.
Also winning were the 200 freestyle relay team of Concepcion, Wright, Tori Nickerson and Vasquez.

Wolves battle on court
The young Coupeville High School volleyball team battled visiting Lakewood in the first and third games of Monday’s Cascade Conference match, but came up short, losing the match by a 3-0 score.
Julie Huddleston recorded 13 assists for the Wolves while teammate Linde Maertens scored 11 kills and had 13 digs.
At Cedarcrest Wednesday afternoon, the 4-2 Red Wolves handed Coupeville another 3-0 defeat.
Once again, the Wolves played hard in the first game before going down to to defeat 25-23.
In the second game, Cedarcrest was a 25-16 winner and took the match with a 25-19 victory in the third game.
Huddleston had 10 assists and Maertens scored 11 kills.
Kassie Lawson had 10 digs for the Wolves (1-5 league, 2-5 overall) and teammate Michelle Riddle added nine kills.
Red Wolves blank Wolf Pack
Traveling to Cedarcrest for a Tuesday evening game against the Red Wolves wasn’t a pleasant experience for the Coupeville High School soccer team.
Cedarcrest scored four goals in the first half and added six more in the second to shutout the Wolves 10-0.
Coming off an 8-0 loss to Lakewood Saturday afternoon, Coupeville (1-5-0 league, 1-7-0 overall) hung tough against the experienced, speedy Cedarcrest team but just couldn’t get anything going on offense.
Vikings slip past ’Cats 4-3
One singles match proved to be the difference for the Oak Harbor High School tennis team in Wednesday’s WesCo North tennis match against Lake Stevens.
The Wildcats captured three of four matches in singles but losing one and dropping all three doubles matches resulted in the Vikings winning 4-3 on their home court.
In second singles, Oak Harbor senior Ryan Evans was a straight set, 6-1, 6-0, winner over Jens Hoult.
Senior Jordan Kigma won in third singles defeating senior Andre Smith from Lake Stevens 6-1, 6-1.
Oak Harbor sophomore Josh Evans bested John Benefiel 6-2, 6-2 to win the fourth singles match.
The loss drops the Wildcats’ season record to 4-6.
Meadowdale nips Wildcats
In their final non-league game Thursday night before the start of the WesCo North volleyball season, Oak Harbor lost 3-2 to host Meadowdale.
Oak Harbor started the match in good shape taking the first game 27-25 and coming right back with a 25-22 win in the second game.
However, Meadowdale rallied in the third game to win 25-17 and then captured the third game by a close 25-23 score.
In the fifth and deciding game, Meadowdale was a 15-7 winner.
Setter Melany Cone had 23 assists in the match and Jennifer Jansen had 15 kills for the 2-4 Wildcats.
Jessica Muzzall led Oak Harbor with 16 kills.
Oak Harbor shutout 4-0
The difficult soccer season continues for Oak Harbor High School and on Thursday, the Wildcats lost 4-0 at Snohomish.
The Panthers scored two goals in the first half and added another pair in the second.
The loss drops Oak Harbor’s season record to 1-7.
Boys second, girls third at Marysville
Competing in Thursday’s cross meet at Marysville against the host team along with Monroe and Lynnwood, Oak Harbor’s cross country teams had good showings.
Led by Tyler King who finished second in a time of 16:02, the Wildcats scored 39 points to finish in second place behind Marysville-Pilchuck who won with a score 32.
Monroe finished in third place with 54 points.
Other Oak Harbor runners earning points were Josh Duhrkopf (5th) in a time of 16:56 and Cody Klauer (9th) at 17:26.
Michael Reith finished 11th in a time of 17:42 and teammate Matt Bolte was right behind in 12th at 18:04.
For the girls, Monroe captured the championship with 35 points, followed by Marysville-Pilchuck with 43.
Oak Harbor tallied 62 points to place third.
Overall Oak Harbor’s runners were bunched together, led by Alison Duvenez with a sixth-place finish in a time of 20:36.
Adrianna Royal was eighth at 20:41 and Kathryn Fisken came in 12th in a time of 21:30.
Kimberly Kile rounded out Oak Harbor’s score crossing the finish line 19th in a time of 22:15.
