“We have come to the conclusion that consumption patterns and habits of Island County have changed.” So sayeth David Sommerville of Frontier Ford (News-Times, Feb. 2).
I have to agree and add my own observations. With the addition of the most recent (and certainly not the last) sales tax increase, I believe we are now at the top of the list of having the highest sales tax is Washington. No wonder people’s habits have changed. The good people at the Chamber of Commerce want us taxpayers to support the local economy. How about support for the taxpayers?
Why would I shop locally when I can get a better deal off the island, especially on big ticket items like cars? And now comes along another plea to increase the property tax.
I hope the mental health services on Whidbey Island are up to par, I think I’m going to need it.
