Turning on the power switch, the Oak Harbor baseball team blitzed Shorecrest 11-1 in five innings Tuesday, March 29, in Shoreline.

The Wildcats (4-1-1, 2-0) pounded three home runs and five doubles to go along with nine singles in just five at bats to bury the Scots (2-5, 0-2).

While the Wildcat offense was blasting away, Oak Harbor pitcher Jay Stout limited Shorecrest to two hits and no earned runs.  He finished with six strikeouts and three walks. After striking out the first Scot batter, Stout walked the bases loaded, but he wiggled out of the jam and sailed through the remainder of the game.

Coach Tyson VanDam said Stout was backed by “a solid defense.”

He added, “We made all the plays, played defensively sound.”

Sam Glavick’s two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning for the Wildcats.

Oak Harbor homered in the next three innings. Yale Rosen ripped a two-run shot in the second, Sam Wolfe hit a three-run blast in the third and Ryan Byrne tacked on a solo shot in the fourth.

Wolfe went 4-for-4 with the home run, three RBI, three runs and two stolen bases.

Byrne finished 3-for-3 with two doubles to go along with his home run.

Glavick was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBI.

Rosen was 2-for-4 with the home run and three RBI.

Stout went 2-for-3 with a double.

VanDam said the goal on offense isn’t so much getting hits by “quality at bats.”  He said, “We had 75 percent quality at bats…we had 17 hits and only 15 outs.”

The Wildcats’ nonleague game scheduled for today, March 30, at Stanwood (1-3) has been moved to Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. weather permitting. Oak Harbor also hosts Marysville-Pilchuck (4-0) in a nonleague game Friday at 4.
