A rollover accident in the middle of Oak Harbor Saturday at noon snarled traffic, but didn’t result in any serious injuries.

Chief Rick Wallace with the Oak Harbor Police said a 16-year-old Oak Harbor girl was driving a 1991 Jeep Cherokee on SE Cabot Drive. She lost control as she turned right onto Highway 20 and struck a tree, causing the Jeep to roll onto its top.

The driver and a 17-year-old girl in the passenger seat sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene, Wallace said.

The accident caused a traffic backup and forced police to detour cars around the busy section of the highway.

Wallace said the Jeep was probably damaged beyond repair. The driver was cited for improper turning, resulting in an accident, according to the chief.
