Island County’s elections office is preparing for the Aug. 19 primary election which takes place throughout the state.

“We are awaiting final delivery of about 42,500 ballots from the printer on July 14, for delivery to local voters. Our work group will assemble these ballots, preparing them to be mailed July 30,” said Sheilah Crider, Island County auditor.

Meanwhile, the assessor’s office is prepared for the public “logic and accuracy” testing of its election equipment on Monday, July 14 at 2 p.m.

“This testing, conducted by the Secretary of State’s office, ensures complete accuracy of our equipment,” Crider said in a news release. Military overseas ballots are being readied for mailing on July 18.

Crider said the Local Voters’ Pamphlet will be in the mail by the end of the month. There was some controversy over candidates meeting the deadline for that product, so she extended it to give everyone an opportunity to be included. The pamphlet should arrive around the same time as the ballots late this month.

Voters have until July 19 to use the Internet to register to vote or update their voter registration for the primary. Citizens not currently registered to vote in Washington have until Aug. 4 to register in person at their local election office before the primary.
