Editor,

Every year, animals and people have a hard time with the extremely frightening noise of the fireworks.

A lot of veterans can’t deal with what sounds like assault rifles. As Jill Johnson says, this is a Navy island.

Please remember that what you do affects your community. Limit the time and days you shoot them off to the legal hours — or less. Because if you don’t, they may ban them here completely — like they have in so many other countries. Consider buying the ones that don’t go way up past the tree tops, which is a real fire danger, and sound like rockets in a war zone. There would be less complaints to the sheriff’s office and the fire marshall. Enjoy the free fireworks displays in Oak Harbor and Freeland.

There is also a big, bright, beautiful fireworks display done in the Rolling Hills area that is not noisy. The real reason for the holiday is to remember our country’s independence.
