Dominance in singles tennis matches has arrived on the courts at Oak Harbor High School.

Despite losing Monday’s match to Stanwood by a narrow 4-3 score and dropping another 4-3 decision to undefeated Everett Wednesday afternoon, the Wildcats are on a roll.

Against Everett second singles senior player Ryan Evans lost his first match of the season to Michael Iringan 6-4, 7-6 (3), while the number three and number four singles players, Jordan Kingma and Josh Evans, remained undefeated.

Kingma was a 6-4, 7-6 (3) winner over Dan Snyder and Evans bested Evan Ebert 6-3, 6-2.

Oak Harbor coach Horace Mells attributed the success of this year’s team to a lot of hard work.

“They’ve been coming out and trying to concentrate and play aggressively,” he said. “They actually have listened to me this season, that’s a change .”

In the first singles match, Everett’s Brandon Soelling defeated Oak Harbor’s Derek Thomas.

Thomas won the first set 7-6 (3) and retired with an injury in the second set with the score tied 1-1.

The Wildcats’ first doubles team composed of seniors Paul Jewell and Joel Valles were three-set winners, defeating the duo of Michael Sowinski and Kevin Staley 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Oak Harbor is 3-2 in WesCo North matches this season and play the next match on the road at Cascade Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats return home to face Snohomish at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
