Mother Mentors of Whidbey Island expanding thanks to gift

Mother Mentors of Whidbey Island is expanding its mentoring program into the Oak Harbor area with the help of a $10,000 gift from Island Thrift.

Mother Mentors of Whidbey Island is expanding its mentoring program into the Oak Harbor area with the help of a $10,000 gift from Island Thrift.

To continue with that expansion, the nonprofit group is holding a volunteer training 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Oak Harbor.

The nonprofit served 42 families with young children in 2014, and 300 families island-wide were served by the Playscape program.

Mother Mentors employs four part-time staff members and is served by 10 volunteer board members and 35 volunteers.

Mother Mentors has also expanded its Playscape play-and-learn group to two locations:

Playscape South takes place Monday, Wednesdays and Friday mornings from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at 5476 Maxwelton Road in Langley.

Playscape North takes place on Fridays  (9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.) at Toddler Learning Center, 950 SE Regatta Drive in Oak Harbor.
