Editor,
I have been following the comments regarding the recent hydroplane races in Oak Harbor, and I want to be sure credit goes to the people who brought this fun event to us.
Chris Sublet is the harbormaster for Oak Harbor and told me that, when he was a kid, he remembered the fun he had watching the hydroplane races that were held here, and he wanted to bring them back.
He spent a lot of his personal time contacting the racing association and making the case for Oak Harbor as a venue to be added to their racing itinerary, and then he luckily was backed by the presentations company that ended up bringing the event to us.
Plans now include an even better set of races next August with larger classes joining in, as well as the ones we had this year.
As for the Marina, Chris and his crew made it all happen for our local boaters to watch.
My big surprise was the complete cleanup that followed all the festivities. The next day you could not tell there had been anything unusual happening here.
And as for the hearing sensitive folks from COER … I have agonized over their sad plight for some time now, and suddenly there was this flash of light, and I have the solution — they don’t have to destroy the economy of Island County nor ruin the property values for all the rest of us. All they have to do is move.
But do rent first next time so you won’t accidentally buy in such an offensive environment again.
