Mount Vernon scored two second-half goals to pull away from the visiting Oak Harbor High School soccer team on the way to a 3-1 win Thursday, Sept. 8.

The Wildcats, behind a goal from Caylie Etherington on a left-footed volley, and Mount Vernon (1-0-1) were tied 1-1 at halftime.

“The girls played tired, and we were missing two starters,” Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg said. “(We) showed some good play but then fundamentals would break down slightly.”

Oak Harbor (0-2) plays at home for the first time when it hosts Anacortes (1-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
