Eleven was the lucky number for the Burlington Babe Ruth baseball team as it defeated visiting Oak Harbor 11-1 and 11-6 Saturday, June 22.
The double header wrapped up the regular season for Oak Harbor and it heads to district with a 5:30 p.m. game Tuesday, June 25, against Friday Harbor at Burlington-Edison High School.
In game one of Saturday’s double header, Burlington combined 13 hits with eight Oak Harbor errors to earn the five-inning win.
Oak Harbor managed only two hits, singles by Trent Benson and Cory Roberts.
In game two, Burlington, which won the state 13-year-old Babe Ruth title last year, continued its hot hitting with 12 hits. Oak Harbor cut back on its errors, this time committing four, but allowed 11 walks.
Burlington’s hitting was also timely, pushing across nine of its 11 runs with two outs.
Oak Harbor had a stronger offensive game than in game one but left 11 runners stranded. Paul Southerland was 2-for-3, Dominic Stevens ripped a double and Robert Herring, Dylan Bailey and Paul Spence all singled.
