Marissa Morris and Mollie Briddell qualified for the state swim meet and led Oak Harbor to a fourth place finish in the district finals at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Saturday, Nov. 9.
Shorewood won its eighth consecutive team title with 529.5 points, nearly 200 points ahead of second-place Glacier Peak with 334. Shorecrest finished with 306.5 points and Oak Harbor had 284 in the 11-team meet.
Oak Harbor coach Alex Thierry said, “Districts went well. We had many great time drops but no big surprises.”
Sophomore Morris defended her title in the 200-yard freestyle, winning by nearly five seconds in 2:01.95. She placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:23.38.
Briddell, a junior, placed third in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.26 and seventh in the 100 freestyle (59.36).
The top three finishers in each event earned state berths.
State is slated for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Morris and Briddell also qualified for state last season where Morris finished 15th in the 200 and 16th in the 500. Briddell swam on the 19th-place 400-free relay team.
At district, Briddell finished fifth in the 200-medley relay (2:05.68) with seniors Kennedy Trisler, Nicole Vogt and Irysh Concepcion.
Freshman Erica Sugatan was fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:28.19), seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:10.04) and seventh in the 200 free relay (1:56.25) with Vogt, sophomore Sophia Dickinson and senior Tricia Desquitado.
Concepcion placed sixth in the 100 free (59.59) and seventh in the 50 free (26.81).
