Paced by three double winners, the Oak Harbor High School swim team swamped Monroe 101-68 Monday, Jan. 4, at John Vanderzicht Pool.
Joe Gorman (200-meter freestyle, 2:22.38; 400 free, 4:59.75), Jose Cabigting (200 individual medley, 2:59.31; 100 breaststroke, 1:15.31) and Eric Jensen (50 free, 28.13; 100 butterfly, 1:10.48) all won two individual events for the Wildcats.
Gorman and Jenson also swam on two winning relay teams. They teamed up with Cabigting and Logan Clark to win the medley relay (2:10.58) and with Clark and Cole McCaslin to win the 200 free relay (2:10.27).
In addition to swimming on two first-place relays, Clark won the 100 free (1:10.13).
The Wildcats had not competed in two and a half weeks, and the times reflected the long layoff, according to coach Erin Bull.
Oak Harbor, however, did receive “really good times from people who worked the past two weeks,” Bull said.
Pablo Closson trimmed 11 seconds off his previous best in the 100 free and cut a second off his 50 time, while Matthew Kolden sliced seven seconds off his 100 back PR.
Oak Harbor (2-4) hosts Cascade (4-2) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6.
