Several have written to rail against county government as becoming too controlling and restricting our beloved liberty. They say that big government destroys freedom.

Duh, it’s the function of government to protect its citizens by limiting the ability (liberty) of those who would harm others … or all of us. It’s the crooks who take our freedoms away.

Catch words like freedom and liberty get used by candidates like baited hooks trolling for suckers while their secret agenda is to wreck democratic government of, by, and for the people.

When they complain about a government program to protect the aquifer 75 percent of us drink from and depend on, one wonders why? What’s up their sleeve? We better find out before we lose something worse because of their false “freedom and liberty” promises, and “too much government” complaints.

At the water utility meetings, those opposed complained of the cost which is less than the fee it replaces. Interestingly, those complaining the loudest were well dressed, well coiffed and left in expensive cars. Is a fee that costs less than they spend in one night at the movies really their concern?

We need to pay attention and support government that looks out for us. We’ve had a hard working crew the past few years.
