Oak Harbor High School gave some of its younger track members a chance to compete by hosting the North Sound Classic Tuesday, May 3.

The meet featured two divisions, junior varsity and freshman, with athletes from Oak Harbor, Stanwood, Marysville Getchell and Marysville-Pilchuck taking part.

The Wildcat JV boys were led by two-time winners Darien Matsushita (200, 24.8; high jump, 5-04), Lucas VanEsch (shot put, 35-10; discus, 115-02) and Wyatt Pauley (1,600, 5:18.53; 3,200, 11:18.44).

Matsushita also ran on the winning 4×100 team with Thomas Gilham, Tre McCray and TJ Passmore (48.83).

Freshman Michael Fisken was also a double winner (shot up, 35; discus, 122-02).

Alora Caillier (200, 29.88) and Kia Ceya (100, 13.85) paced the JV girls with wins in an individual event and on  two relay teams with Madison Korneli and Miu Masuko (4×100, 56.93; 4×200, 2:12.32).

Elyssa Nortier added wins in the 800 (3:00.48) and 1,600 (6:27.7), and Kristina Tirado took the long jump (13-09) and triple jump (28-02).

Freshman Alex Smith won the 800 (2:39.91) and 1,600 (5:54.09).

The Oak Harbor varsity track team competes at the Stanwood Invitational at 4 p.m. Friday, May 6.
