Members of the faith-based community gathered today outside the Island County courthouse for National Day of Prayer.
Representatives from all over the island led prayers on various aspects of society including prayers for our nation, public officials, military, business, families, schools and media.
A group of about 50 people participated in prayer and song.There’s one more opportunity to gather 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Windjammer Park gazebo for a final prayer rally.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation.
It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
The mission of the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.
