The NWPRD sponsored Whidbey Island Running Club picked up four firsts at the seven-team Tesseract Cross Country Invitational Saturday, Oct. 22, at Bellingham’s Cornwall Park.
Winners for the WIRC included Jadyn Erickson (mini-bantam girls, 1K, 5:18), Gavin Clark (mini-bantam boys, 1K, 5:40), Emily Lamb (sub-bantam girls, 2K, 10:43) and Laura Rodeheffer (midget girls, 3K, 11:48).
Rodeheffer received WIRC Runner of the Meet honors. She came from 50 meters down to win.
Coach Catie Rodeheffer said, “I was impressed with Laura’s ability to stay focused on catching the girl and making up that much ground over a rolling-hills course.”
WIRC’s Most Improved honor went to Caleb Thompson. Thompson recorded a personal best by 11 seconds while most runners added time on the difficult course, according to coach Rodeheffer.
The WIRC goes to the Pacific Northwest Cross Country Association Championships Nov. 12 in Seattle.
The WIRC is still accepting members; contact Catie Rodeheffer at catie@rodeheffer.net to sign-up.
