Make it four in a row.
The Coupeville High School boys basketball team won its fourth straight game, slamming Sultan 66-54 on the road Monday, Jan. 31.
Coupeville coach Randy King said, “We are finally playing the way we envisioned at the beginning of the season.”
The Wolves won just one of their first nine games as they dealt with early-season injuries to starters Hunter Hammer and Dalton Engle.
Now at full strength, Coupeville (7-11) is hitting its stride as heads into the final two league games and the district tournament. The Wolves finish out league play with home games against Lakewood Wednesday, Feb. 2, and Archbishop Murphy Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.
At Sultan, the Wolves trailed 10-9 after one quarter, but put together an outstanding second quarter to pull away.
In the second, Coupeville scored 25 points, hitting from far and in the paint. Tyler King sparked the rally with three threes and Ian Smith added another as Coupeville went into the break up 34-26.
Randy King said, “We had great possessions in the second quarter, and we had only one turnover.”
The lead was 15, 56-42, after three.
The 66 points is a season high as the Wolves received balanced scoring from its guards and posts.
Tyler King finished with 21 points and five threes and fellow guard Smith ended with 12.
On the inside, Ben Hayes racked up 18 points and Hammer 12. Dalton Engle chipped in with the final three.
Coach King said, “We shot the ball (consistently well) tonight.”
