The 2016 season is “going great” for the Oak Harbor High School cheer team, according to coach Kimberly Schmal.

“Everyone is working together to be a family and to continue to grow their skills,” Schmal said.

The core of the squad is made up of returning seniors Jacklyn Curtis, Faith Lamb, Katie Schisler and Zaygen Blaszkowski; junior Shyanne King; and sophomore Avery Roberts.

Key newcomers, according to Schmal, are senior Jaqueline Gibson; juniors Sydney Koslowski and Madison Korneli; and sophomores Aspen Kemper, Brittany McCollough and Rebekah Vasquez.

“Everyone gets along well on our squad, and one of our biggest strengths is that everyone has a drive to perform well,” Schmal said. “We have a lot of new cheerleaders on our varsity squad; they are young but are working hard.”

Schmal’s goals for the team are to continue to build its skills and “pump up the spirit in Oak Harbor.”
